What is made by AI
- Stories, lyrics and character descriptions are written by an AI language model.
- Pictures (portraits, book pages and covers, game figures) are drawn by an AI image model.
- Narration is read aloud by an AI voice, and songs are composed and sung by an AI music model. Songs carry Google's invisible SynthID watermark that marks them as AI-made.
- 3D models of characters are sculpted by an AI 3D model from the character's game figure.
The ready-made characters and books were made the same way. The app itself was built with the help of AI too: its games and code were written with an AI coding assistant, and some of its artwork (such as the arcade rooms and the sky) and the voices that read out game instructions were made with AI. The sound effects and background music are recordings licensed from their creators (see our Acknowledgements). Books and songs your family makes are labelled βMade with AIβ in the app.
Who these AI helpers are
Today we use Google's Gemini models for words, pictures, voices and songs, and fal.ai for 3D models. Our Privacy Policy explains what they receive and where.
How we keep it safe
- Grown-ups only. Only a parent or guardian can ask the AI to make anything. Kid profiles can read, listen and play, but cannot create.
- A safety check before anything is made. Every idea, description and note is checked automatically, and anything unsuitable for children is refused before it reaches the AI.
- Child-safe instructions. Every request we send tells the AI to keep things gentle, kind and age-appropriate.
- Checks after it is made. Stories are re-read by a second AI editor, and every picture is checked by an AI vision check and redrawn automatically if something looks wrong.
- A grown-up reviews it first. Before anything is made the app asks a parent to confirm they will look at it, or listen to it, before a child does.
- Private to your family. Nothing your family makes is ever shown to other families. There is no chat and no sharing between accounts.
- Photos are not kept. A photo used to show what a character looks like is deleted once the character is finished.
No system is perfect
AI can still get things wrong: an odd picture, a character drawn differently on one page, or a word you would not choose. That is why a grown-up should always check first. If something is not right, you can ask for a fresh picture of a page, delete anything at any time, and report it to us.
Report something and get it removed
Press the π© Report button on a book, song or character, or see our report page. We look at every report, aim to respond within two business days (sooner for anything that could harm a child), remove content where needed, and use what we learn to improve our safety checks. If you are worried a child is in danger, contact the police on 000 first.
You can also report serious online harm to the eSafety Commissioner at esafety.gov.au/report.
